Guide
How the kit works
Start with Spirit Blade: Chonghua's Layered Frost. Chongyun strikes in front of him for AoE Cryo damage, and after a short delay a Chonghua Frost Field appears. Inside it, Sword, Claymore and Polearm weapons are infused with Cryo. Steady Breathing also gives those weapon users 8% Normal Attack speed while they are in the field.
Use Spirit Blade: Cloud-Parting Star when you want its damage. It drops three spirit blades in sequence after a short delay; each explosion deals AoE Cryo damage and launches opponents. You can then switch to an ally who benefits from the field.
If Chongyun stays on the field, Demonbane (NA) has up to four Normal Attack strikes. Its Charged Attack spins while draining Stamina and ends with a stronger slash. When the field disappears, Rimechaser Blade summons another blade for AoE Cryo damage equal to 100% of the Skill’s damage and reduces the Cryo RES of opponents it hits by 10% for 8 seconds.
Build and why
For a team-focused build, use four pieces of Noblesse Oblige. The two-piece bonus increases Burst damage by 20%, and casting the Burst gives the party 20% ATK for 12 seconds. The four-piece effect does not stack. Four pieces of Emblem of Severed Fate are another option: they increase Burst damage based on Energy Recharge, while the two-piece bonus gives 20% Energy Recharge.
For more Cryo damage, try four pieces of Blizzard Strayer or two pieces each of Blizzard Strayer and Noblesse Oblige. The mixed setup gives 15% Cryo DMG Bonus and 20% Burst damage. The four-piece Blizzard Strayer bonus gives CRIT Rate against opponents affected by Cryo, with a further increase against Frozen opponents.
Use ATK Percentage or Energy Recharge on the sands, Cryo DMG Bonus on the goblet, and CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG on the circlet. For substats, look for CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK Percentage and Energy Recharge, followed by Elemental Mastery. Energy Recharge helps you build Energy for the Burst.
Wolf's Gravestone is the first weapon choice: it gives ATK and can increase the whole party’s ATK after a hit against an opponent below 30% HP. Serpent Spine is a strong alternative if Chongyun spends time on the field; its damage stacks build over time, but taking damage removes a stack. Beacon of the Reed Sea gives ATK after a Skill hit and after taking damage. For another 4-star option, Akuoumaru increases Burst damage based on the party’s combined maximum Energy capacity.
Leveling priority
A suggested talent order is Spirit Blade: Cloud-Parting Star first, then Spirit Blade: Chonghua's Layered Frost, then Demonbane (NA). The Burst drops multiple damaging blades, while the Skill deals Cryo damage when cast. Normal Attacks matter more if you keep Chongyun on the field.
For maximum ascension you need 420,000 Mora, 168 Cor Lapis, 1 Shivada Jade Sliver, 9 Shivada Jade Fragment, 9 Shivada Jade Chunk, 6 Shivada Jade Gemstone, 18 Damaged Mask, 30 Stained Mask, 36 Ominous Mask and 46 Hoarfrost Core.
For all three talents at maximum, the listed total is 4,957,500 Mora, 9 Teachings of Diligence, 63 Guide to Diligence, 114 Philosophies of Diligence, 3 Crown of Insight, 18 Damaged Mask, 66 Stained Mask, 93 Ominous Mask and 18 Dvalin's Sigh.
Constellations worth it
Atmospheric Revolution is the standout constellation. Skills and Bursts cast inside Chongyun’s field have their cooldowns reduced by 15%. Your teammates need to cast them inside the field to get the reduction.
Rally of Four Blades is worth considering for Burst damage: it adds a fourth blade and gives the Burst 15% more damage against opponents whose remaining HP percentage is lower than Chongyun’s. Cloudburst (C3) is another option for a Burst-focused build, adding three levels to that talent.
Ice Unleashed rewards completing Chongyun’s Normal Attack combo with three Cryo blades, so it is less relevant if you switch him out quickly. Frozen Skies restores 1 Energy when he hits a Cryo-affected opponent, at most once every 2 seconds. The True Path adds three Skill levels. None of these is necessary for his field to provide Cryo infusion.
Common mistakes
Do not assume the field infuses every weapon type. Its listed infusion applies to Sword, Claymore and Polearm, so plan around the active character’s weapon. Be careful pairing it with a character whose damage plan relies on Physical attacks.
Do not ignore Energy Recharge if you struggle to use the Burst when needed. With four pieces of Blizzard Strayer, check how much CRIT Rate you already get against Cryo-affected or Frozen enemies before choosing your circlet. At C2, remember that the cooldown reduction depends on casting inside the field.
