How the kit works
Before a fight, use 3-9× Smile if you need Physical Weakness. The first time you use Sizzlin' Tango in the next battle, it applies that weakness to the target for two turns. Dust Devil's Sunset Rodeo also applies Physical Weakness for two turns, deals Physical DMG and delays the target's action by 40%.
Use Sizzlin' Tango to put Boothill and one enemy into Standoff. The enemy is Taunted, and Boothill's Basic becomes Fanning the Hammer. The Skill does not end his turn, so he can attack immediately. Standoff lasts two turns, with its duration decreasing at the start of each of his turns.
Fanning the Hammer can only hit the Standoff target and does not recover a Skill Point. Boothill deals 30% more damage to that target, but takes 15% more damage when it attacks him. If the target is defeated or becomes Weakness Broken, Standoff ends and Boothill gains a Pocket Trickshot stack.
Five Peas in a Pod gives the Enhanced Basic 50% more Toughness Reduction per stack, up to three stacks. When the target is Weakness Broken while the Enhanced Basic is used, it also deals Break DMG based on the stack count. Stacks carry into the next battle after a win. Gaining a stack in Standoff also restores 10 Energy, even when the stack limit has already been reached.
Build and why
For the four-piece relic set, use Iron Cavalry Against the Scourge. It gives 16% Break Effect, and at 150% Break Effect its Break DMG ignores 10% of the target's DEF. Its 250% threshold applies extra DEF ignore to Super Break DMG, not ordinary Break DMG. Thief of Shooting Meteor is an alternative that gives Break Effect from both its two-piece and four-piece effects, plus 3 Energy when the wearer inflicts Weakness Break.
Pair either set with Talia: Kingdom of Banditry. It gives 16% Break Effect, plus another 20% at 145 SPD. Forge of the Kalpagni Lantern is another option: it gives 6% SPD and grants 40% Break Effect for one turn after hitting an enemy with Fire Weakness.
Sailing Towards a Second Life is the first weapon choice. It gives 60% Break Effect, lets Break DMG ignore 20% DEF and grants 12% SPD at 150% Break Effect in battle. Shadowed by Night comes next, with 28% Break Effect and a conditional SPD increase. Adversarial is another option that increases SPD for two turns after the wearer defeats an enemy.
Use CRIT Rate or ATK Percentage on the body, SPD on the feet, Physical DMG Boost on the sphere and Break Effect on the rope. For substats, follow Break Effect, SPD, ATK Percentage, CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG in that order. Break Effect also raises Boothill's CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG through his passive, up to its stated caps.
Leveling priority
Follow the game's order: Five Peas in a Pod, Sizzlin' Tango, Skullcrush Spurs, then Dust Devil's Sunset Rodeo. The Talent is the starting point because its Break DMG is tied to Pocket Trickshot, while the Skill sets up Standoff and the Enhanced Basic.
Ascension takes 308,000 Credit, 65 IPC Work Permit, 15 Tatters of Thought, 15 Fragments of Impression and 15 Shards of Desires.
To raise all skills to their maximum, you need 3,000,000 Credit, 8 Tracks of Destiny, 18 Meteoric Bullet, 69 Destined Expiration, 139 Countertemporal Shot, 12 Lost Echo of the Shared Wish, 41 Tatters of Thought, 56 Fragments of Impression and 58 Shards of Desires.
Eidolons worth it
A suggested first upgrade is Dusty Trail's Lone Star. Boothill starts battle with a Pocket Trickshot stack and ignores 16% of the target's DEF when he deals damage.
For a later upgrade, Crowbar Hotel's Raccoon adds Break DMG when the Talent triggers: 40% of the original damage multiplier to the target and 70% to adjacent enemies. It gives Boothill damage against enemies beside his main target.
Milestonemonger (E2) is also worth considering. Gaining Pocket Trickshot in Standoff recovers a Skill Point and gives 30% Break Effect for two turns, with a limit of one trigger per turn. It can trigger beyond the stack cap.
You can leave the other Eidolons for later if those effects are what you want. E3 and E5 raise skill levels, while E4 changes the damage exchanged with the Standoff target.
Teams
Boothill gives these teams a focused Physical attacker who can apply his own weakness and delay an enemy. Pick his Standoff target with the rest of the team in mind, since his Enhanced Basic cannot switch targets.
Common mistakes
Do not enter Standoff expecting to freely switch targets with the Enhanced Basic. Choose an enemy you can defeat or Weakness Break to end Standoff and earn a stack. Also remember that the Enhanced Basic does not restore Skill Points.
Do not ignore the damage Boothill takes from his chosen opponent. His passive reduces damage from enemies outside Standoff, not the extra damage from the opponent inside it.
Do not chase the 250% threshold on Iron Cavalry Against the Scourge expecting it to strengthen ordinary Break DMG through the extra DEF ignore. Check whether your team has a way to deal Super Break DMG. Likewise, Forge of the Kalpagni Lantern needs a target with Fire Weakness for its Break Effect bonus.
