How the kit works
Hold Basic Attack: Adorable Explosive Impact for a charged hit. Releasing at the right moment triggers precise charging and increases that hit’s Daze by 20%. The second and third hits each cost 50 Downbeats. Nangong Yu starts with 30, restores 3.8 per second in combat and gains 12 when a squad member inflicts an Attribute Anomaly, once every 6 seconds.
After EX Special Attack: The Unbearable Weight of Love (Special), Chain Attack: Comet Gravity or Ultimate: Meteor Shower, hold the Basic Attack with enough Downbeats to skip straight to the second and third hits. Those hits always use precise charging. The third hit applies Misstep, as does the Ultimate: it raises the target’s Stun DMG Multiplier by 30% and extends its Stun by 3 seconds.
A hit from the charged Basic Attack or EX Special activates Core Passive: Prodigious Idol, increasing Nangong Yu’s Anomaly Buildup Rate by 35%, her Daze dealt by 20% and squad DMG by 25% for 30 seconds. Against a Stunned enemy, Anomaly inflictions, Abloom DMG and Disorder DMG build Vibrato. Clearing those stacks triggers Abloom if the target has a listed Attribute Anomaly; Vibrato cannot build again during that Stun.
Build and why
Use four pieces of Phaethon’s Melody with two pieces of Freedom Blues. Phaethon’s Melody gives Anomaly Mastery, which Core Passive: Prodigious Idol converts into Impact above 110 initial Anomaly Mastery. Its four-piece effect grants Anomaly Proficiency when a squad member uses an EX Special Attack. Freedom Blues adds another 30 Anomaly Proficiency with two pieces; two pieces of Chaos Jazz give the same amount.
Choose Anomaly Proficiency on disc 4, Ether DMG Bonus on disc 5 and Anomaly Mastery on disc 6. For substats, look for Anomaly Proficiency first and Percent ATK second. The disc 6 stat supports both Anomaly buildup and the passive’s Impact conversion.
Neon Fantasies is the first weapon choice. It gives 90 Anomaly Proficiency, and Basic Attack or EX Special Attack Ether hits build stacks of squad DMG. At two stacks, it gives another 60 Anomaly Proficiency. Hellfire Gears is the next option: its EX Special Attack effect raises Impact, while its off-field effect restores Energy faster. The Simmering Pot is another option if you use Assist Follow-Up: Improvised Performance, which activates its Daze and DMG bonuses.
Leveling priority
Follow the game’s order: Core Skill first, then Basic Attack, Chain Attack, Special Attack, Assist and Dodge. The Core Skill supports the squad and Nangong Yu’s Anomaly mechanics, while Basic Attack covers the charged hits she uses to build Daze.
For maximum ascension you need 800,000 Denny, 4 Basic Stun Certification Seal, 32 Advanced Stun Certification Seal and 30 Buster Certification Seal. Maxing all skills takes 2,905,000 Denny, 25 Basic Ether Chip, 75 Advanced Ether Chip, 250 Specialized Ether Chip, 5 Hamster Cage Pass, 9 Marrow-Draining Thorn and 60 Higher Dimensional Data: Spiked Corruption Core.
Mindscapes worth it
Lazy Spotlight is a good upgrade to consider: charged Basic Attack or EX Special Attack hits lower the enemy’s All-Attribute RES by 18% for 40 seconds, and Nangong Yu enters with full Downbeats. In Investigation Zone Mode, the resource refill has a 180-second limit.
Painless Tears is another useful option. It increases the Vibrato bonus per stack and adds 30% to the Stun DMG Multiplier from Angel Captain. A qualifying Chain Attack heavy hit can also trigger Polarity Disorder once per enemy during a Stun.
An Angel’s Delusion (M6) is worth considering for its 50% extra Daze and Vibrato: Modified before Stun. You can leave M3 and M5 for later if you prefer new effects over skill levels; both raise the listed combat skill levels by two.
Common mistakes
Do not spend Downbeats without watching the count: the last two charged hits cost 50 each, and the third hit is the one that applies Misstep. After an EX Special, Chain Attack or Ultimate, use the skip when you have enough resources instead of charging the first hit again.
Do not expect Polarity Disorder from a heavy hit unless the target is both Stunned and affected by an Attribute Anomaly. Likewise, clearing Vibrato without a listed Anomaly on the target will not trigger its Abloom DMG. Apply an Anomaly in time and use the Stun window to activate these effects.
