Guide
How the kit works
Start with Basic Attack: Tsukuyomi Kagura. Jougen gives 10% Electric DMG and increased Anti-Interrupt Level during Basic Attacks; Kagen gives 10% PEN Ratio and increased Interrupt Level for them. After a stance switch, Yanagi keeps the previous stance's bonus for 8 seconds.
Use Special Attack: Ruten after the third, fourth or fifth Basic Attack hit to perform Swift Ruten. It switches stance, blocks enemy attacks while active and lets you resume the Basic Attack combo at its third hit. With another Anomaly character or an Electric teammate, hitting with Basic Attacks after a stance switch increases Electric Anomaly Buildup by 45% for 8 seconds.
When you have enough Energy, hold EX Special Attack: Gekka Ruten (Special). Its thrust switches stance and starts Shinrabanshou for 15 seconds. During that state, a Basic Attack following the fifth hit or another skill starts at the third hit. If the downward strike hits an enemy with an Anomaly, it triggers Polarity Disorder: 15% of the original Disorder effect's DMG plus an amount based on Yanagi's Anomaly Proficiency. The Anomaly stays on the target.
Use Ultimate: Raiei Tenge at maximum Decibel Rating. Its lightning strike also triggers Polarity Disorder against an enemy affected by an Attribute Anomaly. Chain Attack: Celestial Harmony, Dodge Counter: Rapid Retaliation, Quick Assist: Blade of Elegance and Assist Follow-Up: Weeping Willow Stab can all lead straight into the third Basic Attack hit. Chain Attack and Assist Follow-Up switch stances as well.
Build and why
Equip four pieces of Chaos Jazz with two pieces of Freedom Blues. Chaos Jazz gives 30 Anomaly Proficiency and 15% Electric DMG. Its four-piece bonus also increases EX Special Attack and Assist Attack DMG by 20% while Yanagi is off-field, continuing for 5 seconds after she enters. That continuation can trigger once every 7.5 seconds, so do not treat it as permanent.
For an alternative four-piece set, Thunder Metal gives 10% Electric DMG from two pieces and 28% ATK while an enemy in combat is Shocked. Keep the two-piece Freedom Blues bonus for its 30 Anomaly Proficiency.
Choose Anomaly Proficiency on disc 4, Electric DMG Bonus or PEN Ratio on disc 5, and Anomaly Mastery on disc 6. For substats, look for Percent ATK first and Anomaly Proficiency second. Anomaly Proficiency helps Yanagi's Polarity Disorder, while Anomaly Mastery supports her Anomaly-focused build.
Timeweaver is the first weapon choice. It increases Electric Anomaly Buildup Rate by 30% and grants 75 Anomaly Proficiency when a Special Attack or EX Special Attack hits an enemy with an Attribute Anomaly. At 375 Anomaly Proficiency, it also increases Disorder DMG inflicted by the equipper by 25%.
Fusion Compiler is another option: it gives ATK and grants stacking Anomaly Proficiency when Yanagi uses a Special Attack or EX Special Attack. Weeping Gemini gains Anomaly Proficiency stacks when squad members inflict Attribute Anomaly; those stacks expire when the target recovers from Stun or is defeated.
Leveling priority
Follow the game's order: Core Passive first, then Special Attack, Basic Attack, Chain Attack, Assist and Dodge. The Core Passive improves the squad's Disorder DMG multiplier by 250% for 15 seconds after Yanagi uses her EX Special Attack. When that attack hits, Yanagi also gains 20% Electric DMG against the target for 15 seconds.
Special Attack comes next because the EX version starts Shinrabanshou and can trigger Polarity Disorder. Basic Attack follows because you use its combo between stance switches. Chain Attack and Assist come after those, with Dodge last.
For maximum ascension, gather 800,000 Denny, 4 Basic Anomaly Certification Seal, 32 Advanced Anomaly Certification Seal and 30 Controller Certification Seal. For all skills, gather 2,905,000 Denny, 25 Basic Shock Chip, 75 Advanced Shock Chip, 250 Specialized Shock Chip, 5 Hamster Cage Pass, 9 Living Drive and 60 Higher Dimensional Data: Destructive Advance.
Mindscapes worth it
A suggested major upgrade is Outstanding Adaptability. Its EX Special Attack thrust builds 20% more Electric Anomaly, and holding the button after a thrust hits spends 10 extra Energy for another thrust. The downward strike's Polarity Disorder multiplier starts at 20% of the original Disorder effect and rises by 15% per extra thrust, up to two extra thrusts.
Know Thy Self, Know Thy Enemy is also worth considering. Squad members inflicting Anomaly give Yanagi Clarity stacks; while she has at least one, she gains 80 Anomaly Proficiency. A stack is consumed when she is hit to give her 1 second of invulnerability.
Inhuman Blood extends Shinrabanshou to 30 seconds and increases EX Special Attack DMG by 20% during it. It also raises the extra-thrust limit for the M2 Polarity Disorder multiplier and halves the Energy cost of the first four extra thrusts.
Chessmaster (M4) gives attacks 16% PEN Ratio against an enemy affected by its Exposed effect. M3 and M5 each add two levels to the listed combat skills; they are less interesting stopping points if you want a new mechanic rather than skill levels.
Teams
Yanagi wants either another Anomaly character or an Electric teammate to activate her Additional Ability. An Anomaly character with a different Attribute is a good option when you want the squad to use Disorder. Yanagi contributes Electric Anomaly and increases the squad's Disorder DMG multiplier after her EX Special Attack.
Try Yanagi with Burnice and Rina: Burnice is a Fire Anomaly character, while Rina is an Electric Support. Another option is Yanagi with Miyabi and Soukaku. Miyabi is a Frost Anomaly character, and Soukaku is an Ice Support with a buffer role.
Vivian and Yuzuha are another pair to consider: Vivian is an Ether Anomaly character with a Disorder tag, and Yuzuha is a Physical Support with Anomaly and Disorder tags. For a defensive slot, Seth is an Electric Defense character with a sustain tag; he also meets Yanagi's Additional Ability condition.
Common mistakes
Do not use the regular Special Attack at random points in the combo if you want Swift Ruten. Wait for the third, fourth or fifth Basic Attack hit, then use the stance switch to return to the third hit. Watch the 8-second window in which both stance bonuses are available.
Do not spend the EX Special Attack or Ultimate expecting Polarity Disorder on an enemy without the required Anomaly. The EX downward strike and the Ultimate lightning strike need to hit an affected target. Remember that Polarity Disorder itself does not remove that Anomaly.
Do not assume the off-field damage bonus from Chaos Jazz lasts throughout a long on-field turn. Also check your team: without another Anomaly character or an Electric teammate, Yanagi's Additional Ability will not activate.
