At a glance

Citlali is a 5-star Cryo Catalyst character who protects the active character with a shield and attacks from off-field. She fits teams that trigger Melt or Frozen: those reactions let her reduce affected opponents’ Pyro and Hydro RES.

Her shield scales with Elemental Mastery, and the same stat adds damage to her Burst and her companion’s Frostfall Storm. She also manages Nightsoul points to keep that Storm attacking.

  1. Basic attack

    Shadow-Stealing Spirit VesselAttack

    Level priority 3 of 3

Normal, Charged and Plunging Attacks deal Cryo DMG. The Charged Attack uses aiming and consumes Stamina.

Normal Attack Calls upon secret arts passed down through the Masters of the Night-Wind from generation to generation, performing up to three strikes that deal Cryo DMG. Charged Attack Enters Aiming Mode, and after Holding, consumes a certain amount of Stamina to call forth a Frost Star that deals Cryo DMG to opponents in its path. Plunging Attack Gathers the power of Cryo and plunges towards the ground from mid-air, damaging all opponents in her path. Deals Aoe Cryo DMG upon impact with the ground.

  2. Skill

    Dawnfrost DarkstarE

    Level priority 1 of 3

Creates a shield scaling with Elemental Mastery, summons Itzpapa and grants 24 Nightsoul points. At 50 points, Itzpapa attacks with a storm.

Invoking secret pacts passed down by her tribe over the millennia, Citlali deploys an Opal Shield and calls forth "Obsidian Tzitzimitl: Itzpapa," a creature that is (reputedly) terrifying beyond compare, dealing Nightsoul-aligned AoE Cryo DMG. The Opal Shield's DMG absorption scales based on Citlali's Elemental Mastery, and absorbs Cryo DMG with 250% efficiency. When it is deployed, it will cause Citlali to briefly be affected by Cryo. After using this skill, Citlali gains 24 Nightsoul points and enters the Nightsoul's Blessing state. Nightsoul's Blessing: Citlali When Itzpapa leaves the field, Citlali exits the Nightsoul's Blessing state. Itzpapa ·Itzpapa will follow the character. ·If Citlali has at least 50 Nightsoul points, Itzpapa enters the Opal Fire state and continuously consumes Nightsoul points to whip up a Frostfall Storm that follows the character and attacks opponents within its AoE, dealing Nightsoul-aligned Cryo DMG. ·When Citlali's Nightsoul points are fully depleted, Itzpapa's Opal Fire state also ends. Usually, the wills that symbolize different stars cannot coexist, for how can purest black be reflected in purest white? Be that as it may, Citlali has never harbored a particular preference for colors themselves, and that is just how things played out.

  3. Ultimate

    Edict of Entwined SplendorQ

    Level priority 2 of 3

Deals AoE Cryo DMG and restores Nightsoul points. Summons up to 3 Skulls that explode, dealing Cryo DMG and restoring more points.

Summons "allies" from the starry skies and the vast earth, hurling forth an ice storm to bombard the area in front and deal Nightsoul-aligned AoE Cryo DMG. This restores a set amount of Nightsoul points for Citlali, and also summons a Spiritvessel Skull near a maximum of 3 opponents within the AoE, with 1 Skull for each opponent. Spiritvessel Skulls explode after some time, dealing Nightsoul-aligned AoE Cryo DMG and restoring a set amount of Nightsoul points for Citlali. "Ugh, enough of this 'dark star, opal star' stuff! Citlalin, Itzpapa, get 'em!"

Passives

  1. Passive

    Mamaloaco's Frigid RainPassive

With Itzpapa out, Frozen or Melt lowers affected enemies' Pyro and Hydro RES by 20% for 12s and restores 16 points once every 8s.

While Itzpapa is on the field, after nearby party members trigger the Frozen or Melt reactions, the Pyro and Hydro RES of opponents affected by that reaction decreases by 20% for 12s. Additionally, Citlali will regain 16 Nightsoul points. Nightsoul points can be restored this way once every 8s.

  2. Passive

    Itzpapalotl's Star GarmentsPassive

Frostfall Storm gains DMG based on 90% of Elemental Mastery, and the Burst's ice storm on 1200%. Nightsoul Bursts restore 4 points.

While in an area with Phlogiston Mechanics within Natlan, can use Nightsoul Transmission: Citlali. When the active character is currently high enough in the air, the following will trigger when switching to Citlali: Citlali will leap up high, and will deploy "White Obsidian Tzitzimitl: Citlalin" to float in the air. Nightsoul Transmission can be triggered once every 10s by your party. Holding Aiming Mode will cause Citlali to enter the "Spiritspeaker" state, which will allow her to interact with "Nightspirit Graffiti" and "Nightspirit Sigils," extracting information and power from them. The rules for interacting with these objects follow the same rules as those governing Iktomisaurus interactions. Additionally, holding the jump button will cause Citlali to consume 75 Stamina and leap. In areas within Natlan where Phlogiston mechanics are present, Citlali will prioritize consuming 5 Phlogiston to leap to a height higher still. When in the air, Citlali can Hold her Normal Attack to consume Phlogiston or Stamina and enter Aiming Mode and trigger Charged Attacks. When initiating Charged Attacks in mid-air, Citlali will prioritize consuming 20 Phlogiston.

  4. Passive

    Songs of Profound MysteryPassive

A Nightsoul Burst restores 20 Phlogiston in Natlan areas with Phlogiston mechanics, except in Domains, Trounce Domains and Spiral Abyss.

Constellations

  1. C1

    Radiant Blades of Centzon Mimixcoah

    Worth it

Radiant Blades of Centzon Mimixcoah (C1) is also worth considering.

When she uses the Elemental Skill Dawnfrost Darkstar, Citlali gains the "Opalstar Vestments" effect until Itzpapa leaves the field. During this time, she will obtain 10 stacks of Stellar Blade. When a nearby active character other than Citlali deals DMG using Normal, Charged, or Plunging Attacks, or Elemental Skills and Bursts, 1 stack of Stellar Blade will be consumed to increase the DMG dealt by 200% of Citlali's Elemental Mastery. After nearby party members trigger Frozen or Melt, Citlali will gain another 3 stacks of Stellar Blade. This effect can trigger once every 8s. Using the Elemental Skill Dawnfrost Darkstar will reset Stellar Blade stacks. Additionally, when Citlali is using her leap, or is Aiming or using her Charged Attack in mid-air, her Phlogiston consumption is decreased by 45%.

  2. C2

    Heart Devourer's Travail

    Worth it

Heart Devourer’s Travail (C2) is the standout upgrade.

Citlali gains 125 Elemental Mastery, and other characters shielded by her Opal Shield, or who have Itzpapa following them, gain 250 Elemental Mastery. Additionally, when the Elemental Skill Dawnfrost Darkstar is used, nearby active characters will also be granted an Opal Shield. Also, the Ascension Talent "Mamaloaco's Frigid Rain" has its effects enhanced: While Itzpapa is on the field, after nearby party members trigger Frozen or Melt, the opponent(s) affected by this reaction will have their Pyro and Hydro RES additionally decreased by 20% for 12s. You must first unlock the Ascension Talent "Mamaloaco's Frigid Rain" to gain access to the above effect.

  3. C3

    Cloud Serpent's Feathered Crown

Increases the Level of Dawnfrost Darkstar by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.

  4. C4

    Death Defier's Spirit Skull

While the Elemental Skill Dawnfrost Darkstar is active, when Itzpapa's Frostfall Storm hits opponents, an additional Obsidian Spiritvessel Skull will be summoned. When a Spiritvessel Skull summoned this way explodes, it deals 1800% of Citlali's Elemental Mastery as Nightsoul-aligned AoE Cryo DMG and restores 16 Nightsoul points and 8 Energy for Citlali. This effect can trigger once every 8s. This DMG is not considered Elemental Burst DMG.

  5. C5

    Nemontemi's Hex

Increases the Level of Edict of Entwined Splendor by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.

  6. C6

    Teoiztac's Secret Pact

    Worth it

Teoiztac’s Secret Pact (C6) is another large upgrade to consider.

After being summoned with the Elemental Skill Dawnfrost Darkstar, Itzpapa will always be in the Opal Fire state, and when Nightsoul points are exhausted, this state will not end. Additionally, when Dawnfrost Darkstar is used, Itzpapa will consume all Nightsoul points, and while it is on the field, it will continuously consume Nightsoul points. Each Nightsoul point consumed in this way will grant Citlali 1 "Cifra of the Secret Law" point. A maximum of 40 such points can be gained, and each point Citlali possesses will grant all nearby party members a 1.5% Pyro and Hydro DMG Bonus, and increase the DMG Citlali deals by 2.5%. When Itzpapa leaves the field, or upon using Citlali's Elemental Skill again, all "Cifra of the Secret Law" points she has will be removed.

Guide

How the kit works

Start with Dawnfrost Darkstar. It deals AoE Cryo DMG, creates an Opal Shield and summons Itzpapa, who follows the active character. The shield absorbs Cryo DMG with 250% efficiency. Citlali gains 24 Nightsoul points and enters Nightsoul’s Blessing.

Use Edict of Entwined Splendor when available. Its ice storm deals AoE Cryo DMG and restores Nightsoul points. It also summons a Spiritvessel Skull near each of up to three opponents; the Skulls explode after a delay, dealing Cryo DMG and restoring more points.

Itzpapa needs at least 50 Nightsoul points to enter Opal Fire and start the Frostfall Storm. The Storm follows the active character and attacks nearby opponents while consuming points. At zero points, Opal Fire ends. A nearby party member triggering Frozen or Melt while Itzpapa is present restores 16 points once every 8s and reduces the affected opponents’ Pyro and Hydro RES by 20% for 12s. Nearby Nightsoul Bursts restore another 4 points.

Shadow-Stealing Spirit Vessel (NA) has up to three Cryo strikes. Its Charged Attack uses Aiming Mode and Stamina; its Plunging Attack deals AoE Cryo DMG on impact. These attacks are available when you need Citlali on-field, though her shield and Itzpapa work after switching away.

Build and why

Use four pieces of Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City. When Citlali triggers a reaction involving Cryo, the set gives the party a 12% Elemental DMG Bonus for the elements involved for 15s. If she is in Nightsoul's Blessing, it adds 28% for 20s. She can trigger the effect off-field, but bonuses from copies of the set do not stack.

For alternatives, four pieces of Tenacity of the Millelith give nearby party members 20% ATK and 30% Shield Strength for 3s when her Skill hits. Four pieces of Instructor give the party 120 Elemental Mastery for 8s when Citlali triggers a reaction. You can also combine two pieces of Wanderer's Troupe with two pieces of Gilded Dreams: each two-piece bonus gives 80 Elemental Mastery.

Choose Elemental Mastery on the goblet and circlet, and Elemental Mastery or Energy Recharge on the sands. For substats, favor Elemental Mastery, then Energy Recharge, CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG. Energy Recharge helps you have the Burst ready; Elemental Mastery strengthens the shield and adds damage to the Storm and ice storm.

Starcaller's Watch is the first weapon choice: it gives 100 Elemental Mastery and, after Citlali creates a shield, lets the active party member deal 28% more DMG to nearby opponents. Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers is a team-focused alternative: switching from Citlali gives the incoming character 24% ATK for 10s, once every 20s. Favonius Codex is another option for Energy: CRIT hits have a 60% chance to generate particles, once every 12s. Give it some CRIT Rate if you use it.

Leveling priority

A sensible order is Dawnfrost Darkstar first for the shield, then Edict of Entwined Splendor for its damage. Leave Shadow-Stealing Spirit Vessel (NA) until last if Citlali spends little time attacking on-field. This is a suggested order rather than a requirement.

For ascension, gather 420,000 Mora, 168 Quenepa Berry and 46 Talisman of the Enigmatic Land. You also need 1 Shivada Jade Sliver, 9 Shivada Jade Fragment, 9 Shivada Jade Chunk, 6 Shivada Jade Gemstone, 18 Juvenile Fang, 30 Seasoned Fang and 36 Tyrant’s Fang.

To take all three talents to maximum, the listed total is 4,957,500 Mora, 3 Crown of Insight, 9 Teachings of Kindling, 63 Guide to Kindling, 114 Philosophies of Kindling, 18 Juvenile Fang, 66 Seasoned Fang, 93 Tyrant’s Fang and 18 Denial and Judgment.

Constellations worth it

Heart Devourer’s Travail (C2) is the standout upgrade. Citlali gains 125 Elemental Mastery, while other characters protected by her shield or followed by Itzpapa gain 250. After Frozen or Melt, it adds another 20% reduction to affected opponents’ Pyro and Hydro RES for 12s, on top of her unlocked passive.

Radiant Blades of Centzon Mimixcoah is also worth considering. Her Skill grants 10 stacks that add damage based on 200% of her Elemental Mastery to another active character’s qualifying hits. Frozen or Melt grants three more stacks once every 8s; using the Skill again resets them.

Teoiztac’s Secret Pact (C6) is another large upgrade to consider. Itzpapa stays in Opal Fire even at zero points, and points consumed build up bonuses to Citlali’s damage and the party’s Pyro and Hydro DMG. C3 and C5 raise Skill and Burst levels respectively, so you can leave them out when those extra levels are not your goal.

Teams

Pair Citlali with a Pyro damage dealer when you want Melt. Mavuika and Arlecchino are options, with Citlali providing a shield and reducing Pyro RES after the reaction. Mavuika also has Nightsoul, which fits Citlali’s point recovery from nearby Nightsoul Bursts.

For a Hydro team, Neuvillette is an option for using the Hydro RES reduction after Frozen. Furina or Yelan can fill a Hydro off-field role. The RES reduction applies to opponents affected by the reaction, so make sure the team actually triggers it while Itzpapa is present.

The remaining slots can cover healing or other support. Xilonen is a healer with Nightsoul, while Kaedehara Kazuha and Sucrose offer Anemo and Swirl. For example, Citlali, Mavuika, Xilonen and Kaedehara Kazuha put a Pyro damage dealer, a healer and Anemo support around Citlali.

Common mistakes

Do not assume Itzpapa starts attacking with Frostfall Storm immediately. The Skill gives 24 Nightsoul points, below the 50 needed for Opal Fire. Use the Burst and trigger Frozen or Melt to restore points, then watch whether the Storm starts.

Do not neglect Energy Recharge just to maximize Elemental Mastery if your Burst is often unavailable. Likewise, a shield alone does not activate the four-piece Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City bonus: Citlali must trigger a reaction involving Cryo.

When using Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers, switch directly from Citlali to the character who needs the ATK bonus. If you switch to a different teammate first, that teammate receives it instead.
