Guide
How the kit works
A simple sequence is to cast Depth-Clarion Dice, then use Lingering Lifeline and switch to your active attacker. The Burst deals AoE Hydro damage and creates Exquisite Throw. It follows the active character and attacks when that character uses a Normal Attack, at most once per second. It also attacks whenever Yelan’s Lifeline explodes and hits opponents.
Tap the Skill to move forward, or hold it to steer Yelan through opponents and mark them. Hold also increases her resistance to interruption; press the Skill again to end the movement. The explosion deals Hydro damage based on Max HP. Each opponent marked when it explodes gives a 34% chance to reset Breakthrough.
Stealthy Bowshot (NA) includes Breakthrough Barb, a faster Charged Aimed Shot that deals AoE Hydro damage based on Max HP. Yelan enters Breakthrough after five seconds out of combat, reducing that shot’s charge time by 80%. Use a reset Barb when you have an opening.
Turn Control increases Yelan’s Max HP according to the number of different elements in the party: 6% for one, up to 30% for four. Adapt With Ease increases the active character’s damage while Exquisite Throw is present. The bonus starts at 1%, rises by 3.5% per second and caps at 50%. Recasting the Burst dispels the existing bonus.
Build and why
Start with four pieces of Emblem of Severed Fate. Two pieces give 20% Energy Recharge, and four increase Elemental Burst damage by 25% of Energy Recharge, up to a 75% damage bonus. Both effects suit Yelan’s Burst-focused play.
Four pieces of Noblesse Oblige are a team-focused option: they increase Burst damage by 20%, then give the party 20% ATK for 12 seconds after the Burst. Four pieces of Marechaussee Hunter are worth considering if Yelan’s HP changes: each change grants 12% CRIT Rate for five seconds, up to three stacks. Its two-piece bonus also strengthens Breakthrough Barb.
For a mixed set, try two pieces of Heart of Depth with two of Tenacity of the Millelith for Hydro DMG Bonus and HP. You can instead combine Tenacity of the Millelith with Vourukasha's Glow for two HP bonuses.
Use Energy Recharge or HP Percentage on the sands, Hydro DMG Bonus or HP Percentage on the goblet, and CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG or HP Percentage on the circlet. For substats, look for Energy Recharge first, followed by CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, HP Percentage and HP.
Aqua Simulacra is the first weapon choice: it gives 16% HP and increases damage by 20% when opponents are nearby, even off-field. Elegy for the End gives 60 Elemental Mastery and gains Sigils when the Skill or Burst hits, including off-field. Favonius Warbow is an Energy option: CRIT Hits have a 60% chance to create particles that restore 6 Energy, once every 12 seconds. The Stringless is another option for its 24% Skill and Burst damage bonus.
Leveling priority
A good leveling order is Depth-Clarion Dice, Lingering Lifeline, then Stealthy Bowshot (NA). The Burst makes repeated coordinated attacks after Yelan leaves the field, so it is a useful first investment. The Skill comes next for its Lifeline damage. Level the Normal Attack last if you mainly use Breakthrough Barb when it is available.
For maximum ascension, you need 420,000 Mora, 168 Starconch, 46 Runic Fang, 1 Varunada Lazurite Sliver, 9 Varunada Lazurite Fragment, 9 Varunada Lazurite Chunk and 6 Varunada Lazurite Gemstone. You also need 18 Recruit's Insignia, 30 Sergeant's Insignia and 36 Lieutenant's Insignia.
To maximize all three skills, you need 4,957,500 Mora, 9 Teachings of Prosperity, 63 Guide to Prosperity, 114 Philosophies of Prosperity, 3 Crown of Insight and 18 Gilded Scale. Add 18 Recruit's Insignia, 66 Sergeant's Insignia and 93 Lieutenant's Insignia.
Constellations worth it
Enter the Plotters is the first constellation to consider. It gives Lingering Lifeline one additional charge, letting Yelan use the movement and marking Skill more often.
Taking All Comers is another useful stopping point. When Exquisite Throw makes a coordinated attack, it fires an extra water arrow for Hydro damage equal to 14% of Yelan’s Max HP. This can happen once every 1.8 seconds.
Winner Takes All is a much later option for a Yelan you want to keep on the field. After Depth-Clarion Dice, her Normal Attacks become special Breakthrough Barbs that deal 156% of a normal Barb’s damage as Charged Attack damage. The state lasts 20 seconds or until she fires five arrows.
You can stop at C0 or C1 rather than pursue later constellations. C3 raises Burst level, C4 grants party Max HP after marking opponents, and C5 raises Skill level. You can leave them unclaimed if you do not want to go further, but reaching C6 requires the preceding constellations.
Teams
Choose an active character who can use Normal Attacks regularly, since those attacks trigger Depth-Clarion Dice. Yelan supplies coordinated Hydro damage, while Adapt With Ease increases the active character’s damage for as long as Exquisite Throw remains active.
Xingqiu is an option for a second Hydro character and also has off-field and healing roles. Hu Tao is a Pyro teammate to consider alongside Yelan. Kaedehara Kazuha adds an Anemo option with Swirl; that combination has three different elements for Turn Control.
For a team with four different elements, consider Yelan with Nahida, Kuki Shinobu and Xiangling. Nahida brings Dendro and is associated with Hyperbloom; Kuki Shinobu provides Electro and healing, while Xiangling adds Pyro. Four elements give Yelan the full 30% Max HP from Turn Control, though a second Hydro teammate is another valid team choice.
Common mistakes
Do not cast Depth-Clarion Dice and then forget Normal Attacks on your active character. Exquisite Throw needs those attacks to trigger its regular coordinated hits. Lingering Lifeline can trigger another hit when it explodes on opponents.
Do not ignore Energy Recharge in pursuit of HP and CRIT stats. The Burst is a large part of this playstyle, and Emblem of Severed Fate also turns Energy Recharge into Burst damage. ATK is not the stated scaling for Lifeline or Exquisite Throw; both deal damage based on Yelan’s Max HP.
Do not expect every Skill use to reset Breakthrough: the chance is 34% for each marked opponent. Watch the existing Adapt With Ease bonus before recasting the Burst, since a recast dispels it. When using Aqua Simulacra, remember that its damage bonus requires opponents nearby.
